A representative for Ariana Grande told People magazine that the 33-year-old singer will take a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine tour. The representative added that Grande looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. Empire Street Productions confirmed to multiple outlets that the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George will proceed without her, with the producers stating they wish her nothing but the best and understand the decision was not easy.
The Eternal Sunshine tour continues with three dates at Chicago’s United Center this week before moving to London for 10 performances starting August 15 and concluding at the O2 Arena on September 1, according to Billboard. Grande performs a very physical show with a lot of athleticism involved, her representative noted while stressing that she performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night. The representative further stated that this tour has been a beautiful experience for her, that she loves her fans and has loved every minute of the tour so much.
Grande released her album Petal on July 31, with its title track music video addressing critics of her appearance in a metaphorical way, Billboard reported. The video shows her as a performer repeatedly told in auditions that she is not good enough, is desperate, should get some work done and then that she has too much work done before the character takes a chainsaw to the critics. Her single Hate That I Made You Love Me from the project stands at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
NBC News reported that Grande has addressed body-shaming and public commentary on her appearance on multiple prior occasions, including in 2023 and again in November 2025. In a 2023 TikTok video, she said, “I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what.” The singer has faced such scrutiny since she was 16 or 17 years old, a Yahoo Entertainment article noted in its coverage of her past statements on the issue.
Billboard reported that Grande has the movie Focker-in-Law scheduled to reach theaters on November 25. Producers for the musical have not yet named a replacement for her role opposite Jonathan Bailey in the Pulitzer Prize-winning production set for next year.
