He started from pole position at the Hungaroring but lost the lead to teammate Oscar Piastri on the opening lap before mounting a successful fightback to reclaim the top spot. Norris maintained an implacable performance to finish ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, who is the current championship leader.
A report from GPBlog stated that Norris converted his pole position into a victory by managing the race from the front after the early exchange. His McLaren teammate Piastri, who had taken the early lead, ultimately retired from the contest. The result delivered Norris his first triumph of the season at the Budapest circuit.
According to the official Formula 1 website, Antonelli leads the 2026 drivers’ championship with 219 points. Norris occupied fifth place with 128 points prior to the race while Lewis Hamilton stood second on 169 points and George Russell third with 160.
