Palestinian officials reported overnight arson attacks on two mosques in the West Bank villages of Qusra and Kour along with vandalism of cars stolen property and hate graffiti that included the word revenge. The mayor of Qusra Abdul Azim Wadi told reporters that settlers targeted a mosque under construction in his village and sprayed graffiti on its walls. Israeli troops were dispatched to the scene according to the military which stated that police would investigate the incidents and collect evidence from the sites.
A clash two days earlier near Tal village resulted in four Palestinian deaths and two Israeli fatalities with each side accusing the other of provoking the confrontation. Palestinian witnesses described residents responding to settler attacks on homes while the Israeli military said forces acted after a Palestinian seized a weapon from security personnel and fired on hikers in the area. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed powerful action in response including possible demolition of the homes of two Palestinians allegedly involved in the Tal incident the authorities stated.
Since the Tal clash Palestinian accounts detail multiple additional settler assaults across the territory as the Israel Defense Forces conducted raids and arrested dozens in what it described as counter-terrorism operations. The latest events form part of a pattern that has intensified in recent months according to local officials. OCHA figures show more than 1,020 settler attacks occurred in the first half of 2026 marking a 45 percent rise from the comparable period in 2025 and averaging six incidents per day across the year. The UN agency documented over 870 attacks causing casualties or property damage by mid-May with more than 50 recorded in a single week in May including arson against mosques homes farmland and vehicles. A separate assessment from Save the Children found that more than 1,000 Palestinian children were displaced by this surge in the first six months of 2026 alone half the total displaced by such violence over the prior three years combined.
United Nations data places total Palestinian deaths in the West Bank at 1,114 since the Gaza war began in October 2023 with the vast majority attributed to Israeli forces and at least 35 linked to settler attacks. In the same timeframe 41 Israelis including civilians and security personnel were killed in Palestinian attacks or during operations there according to the same UN tallies.
