India’s population aged 60 and above is projected to rise from 153 million in 2020 to 347 million by 2050 according to United Nations Population Fund data which has accelerated demand for organised elder care as younger generations relocate for employment opportunities. A NITI Aayog assessment values the senior care industry at approximately 7 billion dollars with expectations of rapid expansion as traditional joint family structures weaken under urbanisation pressures. Mordor Intelligence forecasts the senior living market to expand from 4.47 billion dollars in 2026 to 14.14 billion dollars by 2031 at a compound annual growth rate of 25.92 percent reflecting the structural demographic changes at play.

Colliers International Group estimates place current demand for senior living units at between 2 million and 2.2 million while organised supply stands at only around 25,000 units highlighting a significant shortfall that startups have begun to address through technology and service innovations. The Association of Senior Living India together with JLL produced a report projecting the market could reach 10.1 billion dollars by 2030 under a policy-supported scenario with urban financially independent senior households growing from 1.7 million in 2026 to 2.1 million. PwC estimates referenced in industry surveys suggest the broader silver economy may approach 50 billion dollars by 2030 as retirement wealth and investor interest continue to build.

Emoha which operates under Age Care Labs offers home-based elder care packages ranging from basic monthly support to specialised programmes for chronic conditions and the company said it serves around 300,000 seniors across 40 cities in India. Epoch Elder Care part of the same group runs six assisted living facilities in Gurgaon and Pune with 200 rooms focusing on comprehensive care that includes wellness and emergency response according to operational data released by the firm. Founder Saumyajit Roy of Emoha stated that for the first time in India’s history there will be more seniors than younger generations which will create challenges around security and loneliness while positioning senior care as a silver economy requiring greater attention.

Age Care Labs raised 85 crore rupees in a Series B1 funding round during July 2026 with participation from Rainmatter by Zerodha Shrem Group and Pegasus Finvest the company announced in a statement. The investment forms part of a larger 250 crore rupee Series B target expected to close in early 2027 and will fund technology upgrades healthcare capabilities and expansion into new markets. The round also enabled a partnership with Shrem Group to launch Shremoha a platform for premium independent senior living communities that integrate hospitality wellness and coordinated care services.

Families separated by distance have adopted these platforms to maintain oversight of parental health and daily needs. Arindam Bhattacharyya monitors his parents in India through startup applications and scheduled caregiver visits while working elsewhere a practice detailed in accounts of urban professionals. Such services combine remote health tracking with on-site assistance helping to alleviate concerns over isolation and medical emergencies without requiring physical relocation.

Industry leaders remain optimistic about long-term prospects with an ASLI-PwC survey finding that 85 to 90 percent expect strong growth over the next 15 years supported by rising institutional investments. Current penetration of organised senior living remains under 2 percent compared with 6 to 7 percent in the United States according to JLL assessments which points to substantial room for scaled solutions. The sector has recorded more than 20 investment deals exceeding 100 crore rupees each in the past 18 months as developers and startups respond to the evolving needs of India’s ageing demographic.
