Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that a Ukrainian drone strike on Tuesday night killed at least five people and injured 10 others at an industrial warehouse in Novoselki, Chekhov. The location lies some 69 kilometres south of the Kremlin, where the attack triggered a significant fire. Vorobyov noted on Telegram that seven of the injured were in moderate condition with one person listed as serious, while Ukrainian media outlets identified the site as connected to the Wildberries retail network.
According to an AP News dispatch, the incident marks the latest in a Ukrainian campaign that has targeted more than a dozen Wildberries warehouses in under two weeks across Russia. Kyiv has asserted that the facilities support Russian military supply lines, although Moscow has rejected those allegations. The online retailer, widely regarded as Russia’s answer to Amazon and valued at around 12.6 billion dollars, has seen repeated disruptions that have affected its logistics operations.
Local Russian officials stated that separate strikes hit Wildberries warehouses in the St Petersburg and Tver regions during the same overnight period. The company confirmed that its St Petersburg depot sustained damage but has declined to issue broader public statements on the attacks. These additional incidents have compounded challenges for the retailer’s distribution network amid the ongoing aerial exchanges.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that Russian strikes overnight killed an 89-year-old woman and wounded seven people, including two girls aged two and 12, in the southern city of Mykolaiv. Two more individuals suffered injuries in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi while a food warehouse was ignited in the central city of Dnipro. The Ukrainian casualty figures illustrate the reciprocal nature of the long-range strikes that have intensified in recent days.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence units intercepted and destroyed 320 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions during the night. A Reuters assessment of earlier activity placed the number of downed drones at 381 on one previous night this month. Such figures highlight the scale of Ukraine’s drone operations targeting sites deep inside Russian territory.
Reuters reports indicated that the Ukrainian campaign against Wildberries began in mid-July with strikes that claimed seven lives at a warehouse in the Tambov region and additional fatalities elsewhere. In total, at least nine people have died in the series of attacks on the retailer’s facilities according to Russian regional authorities. The sustained focus on logistics hubs has disrupted supply chains without confirmed independent assessments of their military significance.
