Qatar News Agency reported that Raul Fernandez secured victory in the British Grand Prix-Qatar Airways which formed the 12th round of the MotoGP World Championship at Silverstone Circuit on Sunday. The Trackhouse-Aprilia rider completed the distance in 39 minutes 45.930 seconds after leading from start to finish having capitalised on difficulties for the pole-sitter. Jorge Martin finished second for Aprilia 2.538 seconds behind while Marco Bezzecchi took third a further 3.393 seconds adrift to complete an all-Aprilia podium. The result marked the second win of Fernandez’s premier-class career.
Pole-sitter Martin encountered a mechanical problem that produced visible sparks from the rear of his Aprilia machine and contributed to a poor start the QNA dispatch noted. Fernandez maintained the advantage throughout the 20 laps at the Northamptonshire venue which also hosts the British Formula One Grand Prix. The race continued a pattern in which no rider has repeated a victory at the British round in more than a decade.
MotoGP.com records indicate that Fernandez became the 12th different rider to win one of the last 12 MotoGP races held at Silverstone. A preview published on the official MotoGP website ahead of the 2025 event had already highlighted 10 different winners across the previous 10 British Grands Prix. The circuit’s reputation for unpredictability stems from a combination of weather variables technical demands and the depth of competition across multiple manufacturers.
Despite placing second Martin extended his lead in the riders’ championship to 31 points over teammate Bezzecchi with the Aprilia rider now on 240 points according to Qatar News Agency figures. Japan’s Ai Ogura who qualified second but crashed during the race fell to third overall on 203 points. Spain’s Alex Marquez sits fourth with 200 points one point ahead of Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio while reigning champion Marc Marquez finished seventh in the race and occupies the same position in the standings.
The British Grand Prix formed part of a tightly contested 2026 season in which Aprilia has demonstrated improving pace across both qualifying and race distances. Qatar News Agency noted that the event carried the Qatar Airways sponsorship for the second successive year.
